HP EX950 2Tb NVMe technical review

HP EX950 2Tb is powered by Silicon Motion SM2262EN controller. This NVMe SSD has Dynamic-Random Access Memory Nanya or Micron 512 - 2TB DDR3 to keep a map of where data is located on the NVMe SSD. The EX950 comes equipped with Micron TLC memory. HP EX950 besides, available in 512 Gb and 1 Tb capacities.

Performance and benchmarks

This NVMe use PCIe M.2 3.0 x 4 bus with write speeds equals to 2900 MB/s, and read speeds 3500 Mbps. It also has IOPS 410000 on reading and 380000 on writing operations per second.

Endurance and warranty

Manufacturer give 5 years warranty limited by endurance 1040 TBW. The EX950 has 2 million hours mean time between failure.

FAQ

The HP EX950 has Nanya or Micron 512 - 2TB DDR3. Dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) makes drive faster, but more expensive.

The HP EX950 due to the high density of memory chips requires installation of extra heat sink. This will decrease temperature of the controller and memory. Some laptops or motherboards designed with thermal pads above or below the drive for better performance during high loads.

The HP EX950 has maximum write speed 2900 Mbps, sequential read speed 3500 Mb per second. Storage run on Silicon Motion SM2262EN controller and M.2 3.0 x 4 high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard. The memory type is Micron TLC.
