About Raymond Chen

Raymond Chen is a solid-state storage engineer and the founding editor of SSDrive. He spent the formative years of his career at Puskill, a Chinese manufacturer that designs and produces NAND flash SSDs, DRAM modules, and embedded storage for consumer, enterprise, and industrial markets.

On Puskill's production floor he was responsible for NAND flash characterization and binning, SSD controller firmware validation across Phison, Silicon Motion, InnoGrit, and Maxio platforms, DRAM module testing, and the endurance and thermal qualification of hundreds of drives per batch. That work gave him a practical, ground-level understanding of why two drives with identical spec sheets can behave very differently once real workloads hit the flash.

In 2021, after more than a decade in the industry, Raymond relocated to the United States and turned his attention to the buyer's side of the market. He now runs SSDrive's independent test bench from a home lab, where he benchmarks retail drives with tools such as CrystalDiskMark, IOMeter, and ATTO Disk Benchmark, and has hands-on tested over 200 consumer SSDs to date.

He founded SSDrive because he kept watching shoppers pay for marketing numbers that collapse under sustained writes. The site pairs his factory-floor experience with independent measurement to explain what each spec actually means for everyday performance, reliability, and value.

Raymond's areas of focus include NAND flash, SSD controllers, DRAM and HMB architectures, the NVMe protocol, and long-term endurance testing.
