Patriot Viper VPN100 2TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD
The Patriot Viper VPN100 2 TB is the flagship capacity of Patriot's heatsink-equipped PCIe 3.0 NVMe line, combining a Phison E12 controller with Toshiba TLC NAND and one of the largest factory heatsinks fitted to a consumer M.2 SSD.

The VPN100 2 TB is the largest capacity in Patriot's heatsink-equipped NVMe series, launched in early 2019 as Patriot's performance NVMe flagship before the PCIe 4.0 VP4100 arrived. The Phison PS5012-E12 eight-channel controller manages Toshiba 3D TLC NAND with a SK Hynix DDR4 DRAM cache.
The defining physical feature is the oversized aluminum heatsink with six thermal fins. eTeknix called it the largest factory heatsink they had seen on an M.2 SSD at the time of their review. Patriot also included an external temperature sensor alongside the controller's internal one, providing more accurate thermal monitoring. The heatsink makes the VPN100 a desktop-only product; the added height does not fit in laptop M.2 slots.
The 2 TB capacity is enough for the OS, a large game library, creative applications, and project files on a single drive. Against PCIe 3.0 peers like the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2 TB and WD Black SN750 2 TB, the VPN100 offers similar read/write performance with the advantage of factory cooling. The VPN100's 3-year warranty is shorter than Samsung's and WD's 5-year terms, which is the main competitive disadvantage.

π Performance and benchmarks
Patriot rates the VPN100 2 TB at up to 3,400 MB/s sequential reads and up to 3,000 MB/s sequential writes, with up to 500,000 random read and write IOPS. These speeds are consistent with the Phison E12 platform's capabilities on the PCIe 3.0 x4 bus.

- ADATA SX 8800 Pro 512 GB: 3,500 MB/s read, 2,700 MB/s write
- ADATA SX 8800 Pro 1 TB: 3,500 MB/s read, 2,700 MB/s write
- ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB 256 GB: 3,500 MB/s read, 3,000 MB/s write
- ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB 512 GB: 3,500 MB/s read, 3,000 MB/s write
- Patriot Viper VPN100 2 TB (this drive): 3,400 MB/s read, 3,000 MB/s write
The 2 TB model benefits from the most NAND dies in the VPN100 family, which provides the best sustained write performance after the SLC cache fills. The factory heatsink keeps the controller well below thermal throttling thresholds during extended workloads. The Phison E12's proven reliability across dozens of drives on the market means predictable, consistent performance for gaming, content creation, and general desktop use. The 2 TB capacity is large enough to serve as a single-drive solution for most users.
π₯οΈ Endurance and warranty
The VPN100 2 TB carries a 3,200 TBW endurance rating with a 3-year warranty. At a typical 20 to 50 GB per day write workload, the endurance would take approximately 175 to 438 years to exhaust. The Phison E12 platform uses LDPC error correction and end-to-end data path protection. The 3-year warranty is shorter than the 5-year terms on competing drives from Samsung and WD, which is a notable difference when comparing long-term value at the 2 TB capacity.

Conclusion
The Patriot Viper VPN100 2 TB is a high-capacity PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD with an excellent factory heatsink and proven Phison E12 performance. The 2 TB capacity is sufficient for a full system build: OS, game library, creative applications, and project files on a single drive. Desktop builders who need factory cooling will appreciate the oversized heatsink and external thermal sensor. The 3-year warranty is the main drawback compared to 5-year alternatives from Samsung and WD. For PCIe 3.0 desktop builds that need 2 TB of fast, cool-running storage, the VPN100 is a capable choice.
